ABOUT ME

Broadly speaking, my research interests lie in applying behavioral insights to understand sources of inequality in entrepreneurship, operationalized as variations in funding and growth outcomes. Prior to embarking upon my PhD, I co-founded and ran a venture-funded mobile technology startup. My experience as a female entrepreneur and CEO inspired me to examine gender distinctions among founders and top management team members. I have embraced a mixed methods approach to better understand the gender gap phenomenon, combining field studies that explore correlational relationships with controlled experiments that develop causal stories. My work marries linguistic processing techniques with manual coding procedures to understand the social psychological mechanisms behind implicit bias within verbal and nonverbal data patterns. My findings have been featured in BBC Radio, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Chicago Booth Review, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Forbes, Fortune, Inc., Pitchbook, Quartz, Scientific American, TechCrunch, TEDx, Thrive, The Times, The Wall Street Journal and Wharton Magazine. You can read my work in the Academy of Management Journal and Harvard Business Review. Stay tuned for my latest work on the social psychological antecedents of EEOC discrimination among franchise entrepreneurs in press at OBHDP.
